What is a Naturopathic Doctor?
A Naturopathic Doctor is a licensed primary care physician that combines the wisdom of nature with modern science. Naturopathic Doctors are primary care physicians like your family doctor. They diagnose, treat and manage patients with a variety of conditions.
Naturopathic Doctors must complete at least 8 years of post secondary education. Their medical education includes anatomy, physiology, biochemistry etc. This allows them to communicate effectively with your MD, chiropractor, osteopath, massage therapist or any other health care provider you are seeing.
Naturopathic Doctors use a variety of modalitiesto treat our patients including Botanical medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, Nutrition, Counselling, Physical medicine, and Homeopathy.
What is a Naturopathic Doula?
A Doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother and family before, during, and just after birth. A Doula may also provide emotional and practical support during the postpartum period.
Studies have shown that when Doulas attend a birth a woman's labour is shorter with fewer complications. Without these complications babies are healthier and tend to breastfeed more easily.
A postpartum doula can help ease the transition that comes with the addition of an infant to a family. This can reduce the risk for post-partum depression in new mothers.
